Danny Vaughn week

Rock Of Ages co-writers Dave and I manage to have many an argument about the merits or otherwise of a number of bands and artists. We regularly disagree on which album is better or worse by a load of different bands both well known or obscure. Spend ages on MSN trying to decide whether his cardigan wearing prog-affiliation is more of an ailment than my desire to investigate every obscure rock related release of the early 70s…. and the ongoing Coverdale or Gillan debate is moving into its tenth year now!

<pic>So when we had a recent agreement on naming an artist without a poor release in his discography it needed marking with something special. The artist that we agreed had never unleashed a duffer was of course Danny Vaughn. Described when Jeff Scott Soto got the Journey gig as the “last great undiscovered rock singer”, Danny’s recorded history goes back over twenty odd years now and during that time he’s released some great work whether as lead singer of Waysted or Tyketto, more recently fronting his own band Vaughn, or performing under his own name. As well as his original work too he’s now performing as a key part of the celebrated tribute act Illegal Eagles.
What we’ve got planned this week are a couple of posts where Dave and I review our favourite Danny Vaughn albums (we disagreed again there!), an interview with the man himself that we’ve carried out via email over the last few weeks, Dave’s look at the most recent album “Traveller” and also a live review from an Illegal Eagles gig earlier this month.

To kick things off then here’s the excellent “Standing Alone” by the under-appreciated Tyketto.

Wow, Danny has a great voice. I was hooked the first time I saw Tyketto in concert. I miss the old days.
