vod:pod update - Schenker Appreciation!
Another overdue change of the videos on offer in the right hand panel and this time, in anticipation for “Michael Schenker and Friends” live at Swansea’s Sin City venue on 11th February it’s 5 Schenker related clips…
First up is the 1972 Scorpions psyche-rock promo for “I’m Going Mad” featuring a ridiculously young Michael alongside brother Rudolph and a particularly hirsute Klaus Meine in the formative Scorps line-up.
Second is a triumphant live rendition of “Lights Out” from U.F.O. at their finest. Somewhat appropriately, apparently it was filmed Live In London sometime in 1978!
Following this is another live track, this time featuring the ‘classic’ M.S.G. line-up opening
their set at Holland’s 1981 “Pinkpop Festival” with “Armed And Ready“.
From Schenker’s MTV era alongside singer Robin McAuley comes the promo for “Anytime” from the McAuley Schenker Group’s second album “Save Yourself”.
Finally, and bang up to date, is Michael Schenker and Friends live at the Falmouth Pavillion on 24th January this year with a fine version of “Rock Bottom” that seems to indicate Schenker is right back on form.
Check back later in the week for my review of the forthcoming Swansea gig.

The ‘lost horizons’ solo still makes my jaw drop.

Never realised the brothers played together. Always wondered how their ways parted so much. Excellent find though. Loved the beard on Klaus …

I could sense there was going to be trouble at Sin City while watching the guitar tech early on. It was obvious there was a problem with one of Michaels V’s but I think the guy thought it would be ok. Anyhow, like most things in life, he ignored it and it came back to bite him on the arse. To be fair to Michael he was on form. However, he is a perfectionist and to play a guitar that goes tits up mid solo would send anyone into meltdown. The audience witnessed a Flying V actually Flying !! In the direction of said guitar tech. Please don’t judge Michael by this gig. I don’t blame him. I’ve seen Pete Townshend go into a similar volcanic state over a monitor. Get out there and see Schenker while you can he’s worth it.

I would agree with you up to a point James. Taking your example of Pete Townshend, he had similar problems last year at the Liberty Stadium gig, some 4 complete power outages IIRC, yet finished the full set.
Anyway, my thoughts on the night are now up as a separate post and hopefully come across as a balanced comment on what went on… rather than the unfair witch-hunt I fear we may read elsewhere.
