Credit where it’s due…

Following on from my rant on Anniversary Editions and re-releases a few weeks back, I must offer kudos to one label I’ve discovered who are offering value for money with their archive releases.

I recently received two Majestic Rock CDs for review on the Classic Rock Newswire and was delighted to see that some significant effort had gone into offering real value to the fan. I’ve placed my reviews for each disc in the ‘CRN / GRTR Review’ section (see menu to your right!) but here’s a quick breakdown of what’s available….

Jaguar - Archive Alive Vol.1

All but 1 track from before their superb nwobhm debut release Power Games. The first demo, a six-track live show and a few later sessions as the band worked up material leading to their first LP. 12 page booklet giving details, line-ups and one fans memories of the band at this time.

Heavy Pettin’ - Prodigal Songs

An eight page booklet and 13 tracks from various studio sessions between 1982 and 1987. Includes Speed Kills from 1982 which their first song ever played live and is the demo sent to Tommy Vance which secured a Friday Rock Show debut and ultimately a recording contract with Polygram.

At last, a record label that seems to understand that there is a collectors market out there for well considered releases. I have of course contacted the label and offered my sincere thanks for their efforts and hope to feature some more of their releases on Rock Of Ages soon.
