Confessions Of A Vinyl Collector

A celebratory edition of Confessions Of A Vinyl Collector as I’ve just one new purchase to report but I’ve been after this so long that there’s an air of euphoria as I polish it and place it on the turntable for the first time.

Heavy Metal Kids ’self-titled’ 1974 debut album may not be everybody’s idea of the holy grail but it’ll do for me! I can’t remember the amount of times I’ve been outbid on eBay for this, or begin to calculate the hours I’ve spent at record fairs looking for a copy or even the time I spent just trying to find it on mp3 as a download just to hear the damn thing but finally I found a copy on the US eBay site, won it for just over a tenner including p&p and it arrived, as described this morning.

Vinyl in excellent condition, some cover wear on the sleeve and a cut-out but, wait a minute!!! It’s got a US radio promo sticker on it recommending four tracks for DJs to play… and most importantly it plays beautifully.

The seller unfortunately has to part with it due to a job loss but I can assure him it’s now firmly ensconced in the Rock Of Ages LP collection alongside Anvil Chorus and Kitsch.

A full review, with cover photos will be posted around dinner time (UK time) tomorrow…..

Never heard of the Heavy Metal Kids. The only vinyl I have won recently is a single by a band called Antix that may or may not be the same band I am thinking of. I am still waiting for it to be delivered in the mail.

    Pointless trivia time!

HEAVY METAL KIDS was the name that Island records tried to push on FREE in the late 60s. They thought that the name ‘FREE’ would mean people would expect free concerts. They refused the name, but this band took it years later.

Hey I remember them ! I had a album of them - not sure if it is the same one though. I remembered enjoying it.

I remember that album, a friend of mine had it back in the early ’80s. Haven’t seen one since. Good find!
